Eric Napoléon (France) lost his rank of best competition pilot in the world, because of his bad final result in 1997 Saint-Auban Worlds, after he missed a start sector for only 300 m ! His two consecutive titles of World Champion last from 1993 and 1995 and, therefore, score each 1000 points but with time coefficient of 0,3 and 0,1, i.e. 40% of the total only.

Michael Grund, winner of Räyskälä 1996 European championships and St-Auban WGC, both in 15 m class, takes the lead with 987,2 points out of 1000 possible ; these two results are sufficient to complete 1,0 total coefficient, as they were performed in the last two years of the ranking, and each is worth a 0,6 coefficient (as 0,6 x 2 is greater than 1, the best performance is affected by 0,6 and the other by 0,4 only).

Note that world class, standard and open classes world champions score less than the maximum possible 1000 points, because level of pilots in these classes (first ten or first half) were not good enough.
